About the role
Surge Global, a leading digital consultancy based in Colombo, Sri Lanka, is seeking a Senior Web Developer to join their team. The role involves building and maintaining client websites using platforms such as WordPress, Shopify, and headless stacks like Astro and Next.js. Responsibilities include developing custom Shopify themes, delivering end-to-end headless builds, optimizing site performance, implementing high-quality UI from design files, integrating marketing tools and APIs, and mentoring junior developers. Candidates should have a strong background in JavaScript, TypeScript, HTML, CSS, and PHP for WordPress customization, with a proven portfolio and experience in performance optimization.
Must have
- 4+ years building production websites.
- Strong JavaScript and TypeScript, excellent HTML and CSS, working PHP for WordPress customization.
- Shipped work in at least two of: custom WordPress themes (beyond page builders), Shopify Liquid, Astro or Next.js.
- Performance optimization work with measurable, verifiable results.
- A portfolio demonstrating UI craft and attention to detail.
- Comfortable with Git and modern build tooling.
- Able to run with a brief independently and communicate clearly with internal and external stakeholders.
