Lead Engineer
About the role
VePay is seeking a hands-on Lead Engineer to guide technical delivery and strengthen engineering practices as the company brings its Shariah-compliant working capital platform for e-commerce sellers from development to launch. The role involves leading architecture and development across Java/Spring Boot backend and React/TypeScript frontend, delivering merchant journeys, building integrations with platforms like Amazon and Walmart, improving testing and CI/CD, mentoring engineers, and implementing practical AI capabilities. The ideal candidate will have strong technical skills, leadership experience, and a background in fintech or transaction-heavy systems.
Must have
- Strong hands-on experience with Java, Spring Boot, REST APIs, SQL databases, and React/TypeScript.
- Experience leading engineers while actively contributing code.
- Experience with fintech, payments, lending, accounting, or other transaction-heavy systems.
- Understanding of reconciliation, idempotency, monetary precision, secure authentication, and audit trails.
- Experience integrating third-party APIs, including OAuth, webhooks, retries, and rate limits.
- Working knowledge of Docker, Kubernetes, cloud infrastructure, and CI/CD.
- Ability to investigate an existing codebase, make practical decisions, and deliver with a small team.
- Clear communication and a strong sense of ownership.
Nice to have
- Amazon Selling Partner API or Walmart Marketplace API experience.
- Google Cloud, Keycloak, Spring WebFlux, or ArgoCD experience.
- Experience building AI agents with tool calling, retrieval, and backend integrations.
- Familiarity with Islamic finance or an interest in learning.
