Senior Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) Engineer
About the role
The Senior Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) Engineer at EFL will design, develop, and maintain EDI parsers and generators for various formats including EDIFACT, ANSI X12, XML, JSON, and flat files. The role involves leading production incident investigations, translating customer mapping specifications, reviewing code and designs, and establishing standards for error handling and observability. The engineer will also use AI coding tools to support development and troubleshooting, develop reusable AI-powered tools, improve CI/CD pipelines, and mentor other engineers. Collaboration with multiple teams and customers is essential. Candidates should have a relevant degree, significant backend or integration engineering experience with hands-on EDI work, and proficiency in backend languages and SQL. The position is based in Colombo, Sri Lanka, and applicants must be eligible to work in Sri Lanka.
Must have
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Information Management, Engineering or a related field
- 3–5+ years of backend or integration engineering experience, including hands-on EDI experience
- Strong working knowledge of at least one major EDI standard (EDIFACT or ANSI X12), with the ability to read raw messages and troubleshoot errors
- Strong proficiency in at least one backend language (Python, Java, Node.js or C#) and in SQL
- Hands-on experience with AS2, SFTP, REST APIs and message queues
- Demonstrated experience using AI tools to improve development workflows, with sound judgment on when AI output needs to be verified
- Strong root-cause analysis and problem-solving skills, with a focus on permanent solutions
- Good communication skills, and the ability to work with technical teams and customers
Nice to have
- Experience in freight forwarding, 3PL or supply chain environments will be an added advantage
