Senior Mobile App Automation Engineer (Appium, API & Playwright)
About the role
The Senior Mobile App Automation Engineer will join a technology-driven organisation's engineering team, focusing on mobile test automation for iOS and Android platforms, API testing, and web automation. The role involves designing and maintaining automated test frameworks using Appium, integrating AI-assisted testing tools, and ensuring the quality and performance of complex, real-time applications. Responsibilities include developing automation frameworks, API and web automation suites, integrating with CI/CD pipelines, and mentoring QA engineers. The ideal candidate will have significant experience in mobile automation, API testing, and web automation, with strong programming skills and familiarity with modern testing tools and frameworks.
Must have
- Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- At least 5 years of experience in software test automation, including a minimum of 3 years in mobile test automation.
- Strong hands-on experience with Appium for automating native and hybrid applications on both iOS and Android.
- Practical experience with Appium MCP and AI-assisted test authoring, element inspection, and test maintenance.
- Proven experience in API automation using RestAssured, along with TestNG or JUnit and Maven or Gradle.
- Experience developing and maintaining web automation scripts using Playwright, including AI-assisted automation capabilities.
- Experience testing complex, real-time consumer applications involving location-based services, multiple user roles, and payment workflows.
- Strong programming skills in Java and/or TypeScript, with experience using Git and CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or GitLab CI.
- Knowledge of BDD frameworks such as Cucumber or Gauge and the ability to develop clear, reusable test scenarios.
- Experience running automated tests in parallel using cloud-based device testing platforms such as BrowserStack, Sauce Labs, or AWS Device Farm.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, communication, and collaboration skills.
Nice to have
- ISTQB Foundation certification or a recognised mobile testing qualification.
- Experience developing custom Appium plugins, drivers, or automation framework extensions.
- Familiarity with mobile performance monitoring and crash analytics tools such as Firebase Crashlytics, Datadog, or New Relic.
- Experience with Docker, AWS, and containerised test execution.
- Knowledge of mobile accessibility testing using VoiceOver and TalkBack.
- Understanding of data privacy, payment security, and PCI-DSS requirements in testing environments.
