Architect – Data Engineering
About the role
The Architect – Data Engineering role is a contract position based in Colombo, Sri Lanka, within the technology and software engineering sector. The successful candidate will lead the design and architecture of enterprise-scale data, analytics, and AI solutions, collaborating with business leaders, engineering teams, and stakeholders to drive strategic initiatives and deliver scalable, innovative solutions. Key responsibilities include domain architecture leadership, AI and intelligent solution architecture, data architecture and cloud engineering, stakeholder engagement, and delivery enablement. The role requires significant experience in data architecture, cloud platforms, AI-enabled solutions, and strong leadership and communication skills.
Must have
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 8 years of experience in Data Architecture, Solution Architecture, or senior Data Engineering roles.
- Minimum 3 years of experience with architectural ownership of enterprise-scale technology solutions.
- Strong expertise in cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
- Strong understanding of modern data architecture principles and scalable analytics platforms.
- Proven experience designing AI-enabled enterprise solutions.
- Experience with: Agentic Workflows, Large Language Models (LLMs), Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), Prompt Engineering, Context Engineering, Model Evaluation Frameworks.
- Hands-on experience with Google Gemini Enterprise and/or Vertex AI will be a strong advantage.
- Strong understanding of data governance, data products, semantic layers, and modern data operating models.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to explain complex architecture concepts to technical, business, and executive audiences.
- Strong leadership, problem-solving, and strategic thinking capabilities.
Nice to have
- Experience operating within domain-driven or embedded architecture models.
- Familiarity with data mesh principles and data product operating models.
- Experience working within large-scale enterprise transformation environments.
- Exposure to AI governance, observability, and FinOps frameworks.
