Senior Data Scientist
About the role
The Senior Data Scientist role involves leading the design, development, and deployment of production-ready machine learning models, particularly for credit-risk scoring and predictive analytics in the finance and banking sector. The position requires expertise in developing and optimizing models for customer analytics, personalization, and automation, as well as ensuring high engineering standards, model governance, and collaboration with cross-functional teams. The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of hands-on experience in data science or machine learning, a relevant bachelor's degree, and strong technical skills in Python, Pandas, SQL, Spark, Scikit-learn, and deep learning frameworks. The role is offered through InTalent Asia for a client in Sri Lanka's IT services industry.
Must have
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Information Technology, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in data science, machine learning, or a related role.
- Expert-level knowledge of Python, Pandas, SQL, Spark, and Scikit-learn.
- Strong experience in machine learning, statistical modelling, predictive analytics, and model development.
- Proficiency in deep learning frameworks such as Keras, PyTorch, or TensorFlow.
- Experience working with data platforms such as GCP, BigQuery, and Hadoop.
- Experience with MLOps and infrastructure tools such as Docker, Kubernetes, and Airflow.
- Strong understanding of model governance, model monitoring, data quality, and ML lifecycle management.
- Experience with version control and CI/CD practices for machine learning pipelines.
- Strong analytical skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to identify model risks, bias, lineage issues, and governance gaps.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work with complex financial datasets.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to business stakeholders.
- Ability to mentor, guide, and support junior data professionals.
- Strong collaboration skills with the ability to work across IT, analytics, risk, and business teams.
- Proactive, research-driven, commercially aware, and committed to delivering high-quality data science solutions.
Nice to have
- Previous experience as a Data Scientist, Senior Data Scientist, Lead Data Scientist, or Senior Machine Learning Engineer will be preferred.
- Experience in the finance, banking, or financial services domain will be highly desirable.
- Familiarity with Agentic AI, LLM orchestration tools such as LangChain or LangGraph, and vector databases will be an advantage.
