Technical Officer
About the role
The Technical Officer at Sri Lanka Telecom (Services) Limited will be responsible for managing and supporting day-to-day technical operations, installations, maintenance, and assigned projects. The role involves diagnosing technical issues, coordinating troubleshooting, liaising with internal teams, customers, vendors, and stakeholders, and monitoring technical standards, service quality, and compliance. Candidates should have a recognized qualification in Telecommunications, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Information Technology, or a relevant technical discipline, and strong knowledge in telephony, signaling protocols, legacy PBX systems, and IP networking.
Must have
- A recognized Diploma / Higher Diploma / Degree or equivalent professional qualification in Telecommunications, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Information Technology or a relevant technical discipline.
- Age below 40 years as at the closing date of applications.
- Physical Telephony: Strong practical knowledge of telecom hand tools, including butt sets, punch-down tools and wire tracers, with sound knowledge of RJ-11, RJ-45, Cat3/Cat5e and Amphenol cabling standards.
- Signaling Protocols: Good understanding of traditional telephony signalling such as Loop Start, Ground Start and E&M, together with digital signalling protocols.
- Legacy PBX Systems: Ability to work confidently with text-based Command Line Interfaces (CLI) used in legacy PBX environments.
- IP Networking: Sound understanding of fundamental TCP/IP, DHCP and VLAN concepts and their application in hybrid voice and data environments.
Nice to have
- Relevant professional certifications will be an added advantage.
- Hands-on experience with one or more of the following platforms will be highly advantageous: Avaya / Lucent: Definity, Communication Manager, IP Office or Partner ACS.
- Hands-on experience with one or more of the following platforms will be highly advantageous: Nortel: Meridian 1, Option 11C/61C/81C, Norstar or BCM.
- Hands-on experience with one or more of the following platforms will be highly advantageous: NEC / Mitel / Panasonic: UNIVERGE, MVoice or legacy KX series systems.
- Hands-on experience with one or more of the following platforms will be highly advantageous: Grandstream: Unified Communications devices and solutions.
