Senior Database Engineer
About the role
The Senior Database Engineer (Senior Database Administrator) will join the technology team to manage, optimize, and secure enterprise database environments. The role involves ensuring the availability, performance, integrity, and security of business-critical databases across production and non-production environments. Responsibilities include administering and upgrading database platforms, monitoring health and performance, troubleshooting incidents, implementing backup and recovery solutions, performance tuning, supporting disaster recovery, enforcing security controls, collaborating with application teams, supporting migrations and modernization, maintaining documentation, and mentoring junior staff. Must have
- Strong experience as a Database Administrator in an enterprise environment.
- Deep knowledge of one or more database technologies, such as: Microsoft SQL Server Oracle Database PostgreSQL MySQL / MariaDB MongoDB Azure SQL Database AWS RDS / Aurora Google Cloud SQL
- Strong understanding of database architecture, indexing, query optimization, and performance tuning.
- Experience with backup and restore strategies, disaster recovery, replication, clustering, and high availability.
- Good understanding of database security, access control, encryption, auditing, and compliance requirements.
- Experience with monitoring, alerting, and troubleshooting tools.
- Familiarity with ITIL-based incident, problem, and change management processes.
- Scripting or automation experience using tools such as PowerShell, Bash, Python, SQL scripting, or infrastructure-as-code.
- Strong analytical, communication, and documentation skills.
- Ability to work independently, manage priorities, and support critical production environments.
Nice to have
- Experience with cloud database platforms such as Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud.
- Experience with database migration, consolidation, or modernization projects.
- Knowledge of DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and automated database deployments.
- Experience with monitoring platforms such as Azure Monitor, Datadog, SolarWinds, Prometheus, Grafana, or similar tools.
- Relevant certifications such as Microsoft Azure Database Administrator Associate, Oracle DBA, AWS Database Specialty, or equivalent.
