Senior Machine Learning Engineer
About the role
The Senior Machine Learning Engineer will lead the design, development, and deployment of production-ready machine learning models, focusing on credit-risk scoring, predictive analytics, and customer engagement strategies within the finance and banking sector. The role involves technical leadership, collaboration with cross-functional teams, and ensuring best practices in model governance, monitoring, and MLOps. Candidates should have a strong background in data science, machine learning, and deep learning frameworks, with experience in financial services considered highly desirable. The position is full-time and onsite in Colombo, offered through InTalent Asia for a client in the financial sector.
Must have
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Information Technology, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in data science, machine learning, or a related role.
- Expert-level knowledge of Python, Pandas, SQL, Spark, and Scikit-learn.
- Strong experience in machine learning, statistical modelling, predictive analytics, and model development.
- Proficiency in deep learning frameworks such as Keras, PyTorch, or TensorFlow.
- Experience working with data platforms such as GCP, BigQuery, and Hadoop.
- Experience with MLOps and infrastructure tools such as Docker, Kubernetes, and Airflow.
- Strong understanding of model governance, model monitoring, data quality, and ML lifecycle management.
- Experience with version control and CI/CD practices for machine learning pipelines.
- Strong analytical skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to identify model risks, bias, lineage issues, and governance gaps.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work with complex financial datasets.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to business stakeholders.
- Ability to mentor, guide, and support junior data professionals.
- Strong collaboration skills with the ability to work across IT, analytics, risk, and business teams.
- Proactive, research-driven, commercially aware, and committed to delivering high-quality data science solutions.
Nice to have
- Previous experience as a Data Scientist, Senior Data Scientist, Lead Data Scientist, or Senior Machine Learning Engineer will be preferred.
- Experience in the finance, banking, or financial services domain will be highly desirable.
- Familiarity with Agentic AI, LLM orchestration tools such as LangChain or LangGraph, and vector databases will be an advantage.
