Senior Data & Backend Engineer
About the role
Champsoft (Pvt) Ltd is seeking a Senior Data & Backend Engineer to join their Healthcare Analytics Platform team in Nugegoda, Colombo. This role involves designing, building, and maintaining data pipelines, analytics-ready data models, and secure backend APIs, primarily using Python, SQL, Snowflake, and PostgreSQL. The engineer will work on integrating various healthcare datasets, ensuring data accuracy, performance, and security, and developing REST APIs for analytics and operational workflows. The position requires close collaboration with product, analytics, QA, and engineering teams to deliver production-ready solutions.
Must have
- 5+ years of professional software, backend or data engineering experience.
- Strong hands-on Python development experience.
- Strong production experience with FastAPI, Flask or an equivalent Python API framework.
- Excellent knowledge of SQL, including complex joins, aggregations, window functions, stored procedures and query optimisation.
- Strong practical experience with Snowflake.
- Strong practical experience with PostgreSQL.
- Experience designing relational database schemas and analytical data models.
- Experience developing ETL/ELT pipelines and production data-processing workflows.
- Experience with data validation, reconciliation and data-quality frameworks.
- Experience working with orchestration technologies such as Airflow, SSIS or similar platforms.
- Experience with AWS S3 or equivalent cloud-based file and data ingestion.
- Strong understanding of REST API design and backend architecture.
- Experience with automated unit and integration testing.
- Understanding of application security, database security and secure handling of sensitive data.
- Ability to troubleshoot database, application and data-pipeline issues in production.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Candidates should have experience with, or a strong understanding of, healthcare data such as: Medical claims, Pharmacy claims, Member eligibility, Healthcare utilisation, Healthcare pricing and benchmarking, PHI/PII data-handling practices.
