Forward Deployed Engineer
About the role
As a Forward Deployed Engineer at Red Owl, you will develop software solutions that help customers analyze and reconcile their operational and financial data. The role involves building data pipelines, backend APIs, reconciliation logic, and AI-driven tools, as well as collaborating with customers to understand their needs and deliver tailored solutions. You will also contribute to improving the company's reusable platform components. The position requires strong Python skills, experience in data engineering or backend systems, and the ability to work across the stack. A bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience is required, along with 3-6+ years of software engineering experience.
Must have
- A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 3-6+ years of software engineering experience, with substantial work in at least one of data engineering, backend systems, applied AI, or customer-facing technical delivery.
- Strong Python skills and experience building production services, data workflows, and well-tested business logic.
- Experience with ETL/ELT, SQL, batch processing, and data modeling.
- Hands-on experience building agentic workflows using tools, structured outputs, retrieval, and frameworks such as LangGraph, AgentCore, or similar. You should understand how to test these systems and put safeguards in place for production use.
- Practical AWS experience with S3, compute, databases, and IAM.
- Experience building secure, performant APIs and services for data-intensive applications or AI features.
Nice to have
- Familiarity with pipeline orchestration and cloud data tools is a plus.
- Experience with Bedrock, ECS, Lambda, Glue, or Aurora is useful.
- React and TypeScript experience is valuable, but not required for every candidate.
- Familiarity with Terraform, CI/CD, and production operations is helpful, particularly if you want to develop further in this area.
