Senior Software Engineer (Java)
About the role
The Senior Software Engineer (Java) will be responsible for designing and developing backend services for a distributed platform, primarily using Java and C++. The role involves collaborating with the Product Architect on architectural decisions, conducting code reviews, and adhering to Agile practices to ensure quality and timely delivery. Candidates should have a strong background in Java software design and development, with experience in multithreading, performance optimisation, memory management, and Java Generics. Familiarity with unit testing, performance profiling, debugging, and standard Java libraries is required. The position also values experience with scripting languages, cloud technologies, AI coding assistants, and build systems.
Must have
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering.
- 3+ years of solid experience in software design and development using Java.
- Strong understanding and hands-on experience in multithreading, performance optimisation, memory management, and Java Generics.
- Experience in unit testing, performance profiling, and debugging (execution and memory).
- Solid experience with standard Java libraries.
- Experience in Python or other scripting languages.
- Experience with cloud technologies such as Kubernetes (K8s), Docker, GCP, AWS, and PaaS.
- Experience using AI coding assistants such as Cursor, Copilot, and Antigravity.
- Experience with build systems such as Maven and CI/CD.
- Hands-on experience with Java performance profilers, debuggers, JVM analysers, Git, and various IDEs/editors.
Nice to have
- Experience or knowledge of AI/ML concepts is a major plus.
- Experience in distributed systems is an added advantage.
- Experience working in Unix-based systems is an added advantage.
- Experience in designing and developing high-performance asynchronous systems is an added advantage.
