About the role

- Practical understanding of networking concepts such as DNS, TCP/IP, ports, firewalls and server-to-server connectivity, with the ability to perform basic connectivity troubleshooting.
- Working knowledge of SQL Server/SSMS from an operational and administrative perspective, such as permissions, SQL Agent jobs, database refreshes/restores, backups, auditing and connectivity troubleshooting.
- Ability to methodically investigate unfamiliar infrastructure and application issues using logs, monitoring, diagnostic tools and available evidence, identifying when specialist support or escalation is required.
- Experience working with incidents, service requests and change management using ServiceNow or another ITSM platform following ITIL principles.
- Experience using infrastructure or application monitoring/alerting tools. Experience with Dynatrace or SCOM is beneficial, but equivalent tooling is acceptable.
- Understanding of infrastructure vulnerability management, patching and remediation processes. Experience with vulnerability management tools such as Kenna or Qualys, or equivalent platforms.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical issues clearly and adapt communication between technical stakeholders such as Developers and Engineers and non-technical/business stakeholders such as Finance users.
- Ability to work effectively across Development, QA, business stakeholders, third-party vendors and specialist engineering teams, maintaining ownership while coordinating activities across multiple teams.
- Ability to assess competing operational demands based on business impact, urgency and technical risk, remaining organized and effective in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to take ownership of incidents, requests and planned work through to resolution, while recognizing when issues require escalation or specialist engineering support.
- A collaborative approach, with the self-motivation and technical curiosity to develop skills across a broad and evolving infrastructure estate.
