Middleware / Platform Engineer
About the role
The Middleware / Platform Engineer will support, deploy, and maintain open-source middleware and application platforms, with a focus on Apache Kafka and Redis. The role involves managing a variety of middleware technologies, ensuring reliability, performance, and high availability, and supporting workloads on containerized platforms. Responsibilities include deploying and configuring platforms such as Nginx, Apache HTTP Server, Tomcat, and Open Liberty, administering Kafka clusters, managing Redis deployments, implementing monitoring tools, and collaborating with other technical teams. The position is part of the App Modernization and Integration department and is based primarily in Sri Lanka, with Bangladesh as an additional location.
Must have
- 3+ years of experience in platform/infrastructure engineering across middleware and open-source application platforms.
- Hands-on experience with Apache Kafka (cluster setup, topic/partition design, broker tuning, consumer group behavior).
- Hands-on experience with Redis (standalone, Sentinel, and Cluster modes).
- Good understanding of core middleware concepts: load balancing, caching, pub/sub and event-streaming patterns, connection pooling, and high availability.
- Experience deploying and tuning highly available, fault-tolerant clusters, including backup, replication, and disaster recovery practices.
Nice to have
- Exposure to other open-source middleware/application servers (e.g., Nginx, Open Liberty, Apache HTTP Server, Tomcat), with a willingness to pick up new platforms as needed.
- Exposure to Kubernetes/OpenShift or Docker-based deployments.
- Familiarity with monitoring/observability tooling such as Prometheus and Grafana.
