General Manager – Software & Technology
About the role
The General Manager – Software & Technology at Mainframe (Pvt) Ltd will lead a team of over 50 professionals, taking overall responsibility for the software business, including commercial accountability, technology strategy, and people leadership. The role involves setting business and technology priorities, managing budgets, resource allocation, and aligning technology investments with business value. The General Manager will oversee software engineering, quality assurance, business analysis, DevOps, and application support, reporting directly to the Board and working closely with senior management. The position requires significant experience in software engineering leadership, technical judgement, and commercial management, with a focus on delivering enterprise applications and supporting platforms for Sporting Star’s retail network and the BETSS online platform. This is a full-time, on-site role based in Colombo, Sri Lanka.
Must have
- At least 12 years in software engineering, including 5 years in senior leadership across multiple teams and complex software platforms.
- A track record of developing engineering leaders, scaling teams and delivering significant software initiatives with measurable business results.
- Demonstrated accountability for budgets and business or operating performance, with sound commercial judgement and resource planning skills.
- Strong technical judgement across software architecture, APIs, integrations, databases and cloud platforms, with experience delivering web and mobile applications.
- Experience with technologies such as .NET/.NET Core, React or Angular, and Microsoft Azure, with the ability to make informed decisions across different technology stacks.
- Experience operating transaction-intensive production systems where availability, security, performance and data integrity are critical.
- Strong knowledge of Agile delivery, DevOps, quality assurance, application support and software governance.
- Clear communication, stakeholder management and the confidence to explain technical decisions in business terms.
- A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology or a related discipline, or equivalent professional qualifications.
Nice to have
- A relevant postgraduate qualification is an advantage.
- Experience in sports betting, iGaming, fintech, payments or comparable platforms, and international market launches, would be an advantage.
