Senior Machine Learning Engineer
About the role
The Senior Data Scientist role is a full-time, onsite position based in Colombo, responsible for leading the design, development, and deployment of production-ready machine learning models, particularly in the finance and banking domain. The role involves developing credit-risk scoring models, applying predictive intelligence for analytics strategies, building personalization engines, and working with advanced AI frameworks and tools. The candidate will provide technical leadership to data science and machine learning teams, ensure model governance and quality controls, and collaborate with various business units to deliver data science solutions. The position is offered through InTalent Asia for a client in the financial services sector.
Must have
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Information Technology, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in data science, machine learning, or a related role.
- Expert-level knowledge of Python, Pandas, SQL, Spark, and Scikit-learn.
- Strong experience in machine learning, statistical modelling, predictive analytics, and model development.
- Proficiency in deep learning frameworks such as Keras, PyTorch, or TensorFlow.
- Experience working with data platforms such as GCP, BigQuery, and Hadoop.
- Experience with MLOps and infrastructure tools such as Docker, Kubernetes, and Airflow.
- Strong understanding of model governance, model monitoring, data quality, and ML lifecycle management.
- Experience with version control and CI/CD practices for machine learning pipelines.
- Strong analytical skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to identify model risks, bias, lineage issues, and governance gaps.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work with complex financial datasets.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to business stakeholders.
- Ability to mentor, guide, and support junior data professionals.
- Strong collaboration skills with the ability to work across IT, analytics, risk, and business teams.
- Proactive, research-driven, commercially aware, and committed to delivering high-quality data science solutions.
Nice to have
- Previous experience as a Data Scientist, Senior Data Scientist, Lead Data Scientist, or Senior Machine Learning Engineer will be preferred.
- Experience in the finance, banking, or financial services domain will be highly desirable.
- Familiarity with Agentic AI, LLM orchestration tools such as LangChain or LangGraph, and vector databases will be an advantage.
