Senior EDI Engineer
About the role
The Senior EDI Engineer will be responsible for the end-to-end design, development, and maintenance of EDI parsers and generators across various formats such as EDIFACT, ANSI X12, XML, JSON, and flat files. The role involves leading production troubleshooting, translating customer mapping specifications, reviewing designs and code, and establishing standards for error handling and observability. The engineer will also use AI coding tools to support development and build reusable AI-enabled internal tools. Additional responsibilities include mentoring engineers, sharing technical knowledge, and collaborating with cross-functional teams and customers throughout the integration and go-live process. The position is based in Colombo, Sri Lanka, within the Information Technology department, and requires a strong background in backend or integration engineering, EDI standards, backend programming languages, and integration technologies.
Must have
- Bachelor’s degree or above in Computer Science, Information Management, Engineering, or a related field.
- 8+ years of backend or integration engineering experience, including at least 6 years of hands-on EDI experience.
- Deep working knowledge of at least one major EDI standard, such as EDIFACT or ANSI X12, with the ability to interpret and troubleshoot raw EDI messages.
- Strong proficiency in at least one backend programming language, such as Python, Java, Node.js, or C#, along with strong SQL skills.
- Hands-on experience with integration and transport technologies including AS2, SFTP, REST APIs, and message queues.
- Demonstrable experience using AI tools to improve engineering workflows and productivity, with the ability to assess and verify AI-generated output.
- Strong root-cause analysis and problem-solving skills, with a focus on permanent fixes and clear technical documentation.
- Strong knowledge-sharing and mentoring skills, with a willingness to share technical expertise, AI practices, and EDI domain knowledge.
- Ability to collaborate effectively across technical and business functions and work directly with customers through to go-live.
Nice to have
- Experience in freight forwarding, 3PL, or supply chain environments is preferred.
- Experience with GitHub Enterprise, Jira, Confluence, Jenkins, Ansible, and AWS-based architectures is an advantage.
