About the role

The Senior Mobile App Automation Engineer will design, build, and maintain automated test suites for native and hybrid mobile applications on both iOS and Android platforms. The role involves using Appium (with XCUITest and UiAutomator2 drivers), Appium MCP for AI-assisted test authoring, and developing device-agnostic frameworks for parallel execution. Responsibilities include automating complex ride-hailing journeys, validating mobile-specific conditions, developing API automation with RestAssured, and building Playwright automation for web and admin journeys. The engineer will integrate automation into CI/CD pipelines, define test data strategies, produce consolidated reports, and mentor QA engineers. The position requires strong programming skills in Java and/or TypeScript, experience with BDD frameworks, and a solid background in mobile and API automation.

Must have

  • Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering/Computer Science/IT.
  • 5+ years' experience in test automation, including at least 3 years hands-on mobile automation.
  • Strong, demonstrable Appium experience automating both iOS and Android applications (native and hybrid).
  • Hands-on experience with Appium MCP and AI-assisted test authoring, inspection and maintenance.
  • Proven API automation capability using RestAssured, with TestNG or JUnit and Maven or Gradle.
  • Playwright automation capability, including use of the Playwright MCP server and AI-driven script generation and healing.
  • Experience automating a complex, real-time consumer application comparable to Uber, covering multi-actor (rider/driver) flows, map and location interactions and payment journeys.
  • Solid understanding of a BDD framework (Cucumber, SpecFlow or equivalent) or the Gauge framework, including step/implementation design, living documentation and collaboration with business stakeholders on scenario definition.
  • Strong programming proficiency in Java and/or TypeScript, with solid Git and CI/CD experience (Jenkins, GitHub Actions or GitLab CI).
  • Experience executing suites in parallel on cloud device labs and interpreting the resulting reports.

Nice to have

  • ISTQB Foundation or a recognised mobile testing certification.
  • Experience building custom Appium plugins, drivers or framework extensions.
  • Familiarity with mobile crash and performance analytics (Firebase Crashlytics, Datadog, New Relic).
  • Experience running Gauge with Taiko or integrating Gauge/Cucumber reporting into CI dashboards.
  • Exposure to AWS, containerised test execution (Docker) and observability tooling.
  • Experience with mobile accessibility testing (VoiceOver, TalkBack).
  • Awareness of data privacy and PCI-DSS considerations when handling PII or payment data in test environments.
