Software Engineer
About the role
The Software Engineer role at Jeneva involves developing web and mobile applications for clients, focusing on server-side applications and services using C# and .NET, API design, and data modeling with Entity Framework Core and SQL Server. The position emphasizes clean code, SOLID principles, and the use of AI coding assistants as part of the workflow. The engineer will also contribute to adopting agentic workflows, build responsive front-end screens with React and React Native, and work with cloud providers like Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud. Jeneva is a digital transformation specialist with a supportive, flexible, and family-oriented culture, serving clients across defence, public, and private sectors.
Must have
- Strong commercial experience with C# and .NET (.NET 8 or later), including ASP.NET Core.
- Experience designing and building APIs, whether REST or gRPC, including versioning, authentication and error handling.
- A solid understanding of clean code, SOLID principles and object-oriented design.
- Experience with Entity Framework Core or a comparable ORM, plus a practical understanding of SQL, schema design and data storage decisions.
- Capability to write and maintain automated tests using frameworks such as xUnit, NUnit or MSTest.
- Hands-on experience using AI coding assistants and agentic coding harnesses (for example Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Cursor or similar) as part of your day-to-day workflow.
- A considered approach to AI-assisted development: you review generated code critically, understand its limitations, and take full ownership of what you commit.
- Proficient understanding of code versioning tools such as Git.
Nice to have
- Experience with React and TypeScript, and a good understanding of React design patterns.
- Experience with front-end test tooling such as Jest, Playwright or Cypress.
- Experience building or orchestrating agentic workflows, including tool and function calling, MCP servers, retrieval-augmented generation, or integrating LLMs into production applications.
- Experience with other languages and frameworks, particularly Python.
- Experience with Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions for CI/CD pipelines.
- Experience engaging with clients directly to understand requirements and seek feedback.
