Engineering Manager
About the role
The Engineering Manager at the Sri Lanka Navy is responsible for leading engineering teams that support naval operations and infrastructure in the Colombo District. The role involves planning, coordinating, and overseeing engineering projects to ensure systems, equipment, and facilities meet operational requirements. Key responsibilities include managing engineering workflows, supervising software and systems development, reviewing technical designs, integrating new technologies, and ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards. The position also involves mentoring team members and contributing to long-term engineering strategy within a mission-driven, structured environment focused on technical excellence and national service.
Must have
- Demonstrated proficiency in Engineering Management, including planning, resource allocation, and oversight of technical projects.
- Strong Team Leadership skills, with experience guiding multidisciplinary engineering teams and fostering collaboration.
- Hands-on experience in Software Development or oversight of software-related engineering projects, including systems or embedded solutions.
- Proven Project Management capabilities, including scheduling, risk management, stakeholder communication, and delivery of complex engineering initiatives.
- Experience with Integration of systems, platforms, or technologies within large or mission-critical environments.
- Relevant engineering degree (e.g., Electrical, Mechanical, Systems, Software, or related field); advanced qualifications are an asset.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to safety, reliability, and regulatory compliance.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to work in a structured, hierarchical organization.
Nice to have
- Experience in defense, maritime, or public-sector engineering environments is advantageous.
