Senior Java Software Engineer
About the role
The Senior Java Software Engineer will be responsible for developing, modernising, and maintaining enterprise applications within the financial services sector. The role includes converting legacy business logic into modern Java solutions, developing REST APIs, implementing automated testing, and ensuring application performance and reliability. Key responsibilities involve collaborating with business analysts and technical teams, writing automated tests, performing code reviews, optimising SQL queries, and contributing to technical documentation. Candidates should have a degree in Computer Science or related field (or equivalent experience), 3–4 years of hands-on software development experience with strong Java expertise, and proficiency in relevant frameworks and tools. The company is a data and technology organisation supporting digital transformation in the financial services industry. Must have
- Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 3–4 years of hands-on experience in software development, with strong Java expertise.
- Strong hands-on experience in Java development, object-oriented programming and SOLID principles.
- Proficiency in Spring, Maven or Gradle, JUnit and mocking frameworks.
- Strong SQL skills, including query optimisation, data modelling and database performance.
- Experience developing REST APIs using JSON/XML.
- Knowledge of automated testing, test-driven development and CI/CD practices.
- Experience with Git and modern development tools.
- Ability to understand legacy codebases and modernise existing applications.
- Strong problem-solving, communication and collaboration skills.
Nice to have
- Exposure to Docker, Azure or AWS would be an advantage.
- Knowledge of React, Angular or TypeScript would be beneficial.
- Experience in financial services or legacy system modernisation would be an added advantage.
