About the role

The Associate Software Engineer (React / React Native) at Layup will contribute to building and maintaining user-facing features for both the React web application and React Native (Expo) mobile app. The role involves developing responsive and accessible interfaces, integrating with Laravel REST APIs, and supporting tenant-specific configurations. Responsibilities include implementing mobile app features, ensuring secure data handling, writing automated tests, and collaborating with the engineering team through code reviews and documentation. The position is suitable for candidates with 0-2 years of relevant experience or a strong portfolio, and requires a solid foundation in JavaScript, React, React Native, and related technologies.

Must have

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
0-2 years of professional React or React Native development, or a strong internship or portfolio of shipped web or mobile projects.
Solid understanding of JavaScript (ES6+) and working knowledge of TypeScript.
Familiarity with React fundamentals, including functional components, hooks, state, props, and controlled forms.
Working knowledge of React Native and Expo, including navigation and Android/iOS differences.
Experience consuming REST APIs and handling authentication and asynchronous state.
Understanding of HTML, CSS, responsive layouts, Flexbox, and Grid.
Ability to translate Figma designs into functional user interfaces.
Familiarity with Git workflows, branches, pull requests, and merge conflict resolution.
Basic experience writing tests using Jest and React Testing Library.
Strong attention to UI detail and consistency across devices and screen sizes.
A willingness to learn, seek feedback, and continuously improve.
Clear communication and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
A sense of ownership and accountability for assigned tasks.

Nice to have

Exposure to Expo EAS builds, app-store submissions, and push notifications (FCM/APNs).
Experience with design systems or component libraries.
Basic knowledge of Laravel/PHP and MySQL.
Exposure to multi-tenant or white-label applications.
Familiarity with e-learning standards such as SCORM and xAPI.
