Senior Mobile App Automation Engineer
About the role
The Senior Mobile App Automation Engineer will join a technology-driven organisation's engineering team, focusing on designing, developing, and maintaining automated test frameworks for native and hybrid mobile applications across iOS and Android. The role involves leveraging AI-assisted testing tools, building scalable automation frameworks, automating complex workflows, developing API and web automation suites, and integrating these into CI/CD pipelines. The ideal candidate will have significant experience in mobile test automation, API testing, web automation, and strong programming skills in Java and/or TypeScript. The position also requires mentoring QA engineers and collaborating with development and product teams to ensure high-quality, reliable, and performant applications.
Must have
- Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- At least 5 years of experience in software test automation, including a minimum of 3 years in mobile test automation.
- Strong hands-on experience with Appium for automating native and hybrid applications on both iOS and Android.
- Practical experience with Appium MCP and AI-assisted test authoring, element inspection, and test maintenance.
- Proven experience in API automation using RestAssured, along with TestNG or JUnit and Maven or Gradle.
- Experience developing and maintaining web automation scripts using Playwright, including AI-assisted automation capabilities.
- Experience testing complex, real-time consumer applications involving location-based services, multiple user roles, and payment workflows.
- Strong programming skills in Java and/or TypeScript, with experience using Git and CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or GitLab CI.
- Knowledge of BDD frameworks such as Cucumber or Gauge and the ability to develop clear, reusable test scenarios.
- Experience running automated tests in parallel using cloud-based device testing platforms such as BrowserStack, Sauce Labs, or AWS Device Farm.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, communication, and collaboration skills.
Nice to have
- ISTQB Foundation certification or a recognised mobile testing qualification.
- Experience developing custom Appium plugins, drivers, or automation framework extensions.
- Familiarity with mobile performance monitoring and crash analytics tools such as Firebase Crashlytics, Datadog, or New Relic.
- Experience with Docker, AWS, and containerised test execution.
- Knowledge of mobile accessibility testing using VoiceOver and TalkBack.
- Understanding of data privacy, payment security, and PCI-DSS requirements in testing environments.
