Head of Data & AI
About the role
The Head of Data & AI will lead the organization's enterprise-wide Data, Analytics, and Artificial Intelligence agenda, developing and executing strategies for data management, governance, advanced analytics, machine learning, and AI-driven transformation. This senior leadership role involves overseeing data architecture, engineering, business intelligence, and the adoption of cloud-based platforms, ensuring compliance with privacy and regulatory requirements, and driving data-driven decision-making across the business. The position requires building and mentoring a high-performing Data & AI team, managing external partnerships, and providing strategic insights to senior leadership. The role is based onsite in Colombo, Sri Lanka, within the telecommunications and digital services industry.
Must have
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field.
- Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in Data Management, Analytics, Business Intelligence, Artificial Intelligence, or related technology domains.
- Proven experience leading enterprise-scale Data, Analytics, AI, or digital transformation initiatives.
- Strong expertise in data architecture, data engineering, data governance, advanced analytics, machine learning, AI, and cloud platforms.
- Experience developing and implementing data-driven business strategies and enterprise transformation initiatives.
- Strong understanding of data platforms, analytics ecosystems, AI technologies, and modern cloud-based data architectures.
- Proven experience establishing data governance, data quality, privacy, security, and regulatory compliance frameworks.
- Demonstrated experience in building, managing, mentoring, and developing high-performing technical teams.
- Strong ability to translate complex technical and AI concepts into business value, strategic opportunities, and actionable insights.
- Excellent strategic thinking, stakeholder management, leadership, communication, presentation, and influencing skills.
- Strong commercial and business orientation with the ability to work effectively with C-suite and senior business stakeholders.
Nice to have
- A Master's Degree in Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Business Analytics, Information Management, or a related discipline will be an added advantage.
- Experience within Telecommunications, Technology, Digital Services, Financial Services, or other data-intensive industries will be an added advantage.
