Lead DevOps Engineer - Azure
About the role
The Lead DevOps Engineer will work closely with the DevOps & Cloud Engineer Lead and software engineering teams to build, automate, and support cloud infrastructure and DevOps capabilities for the Digital Product portfolio. This hands-on role focuses on Azure, Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD, and automation, with responsibilities including building and maintaining Azure infrastructure, implementing Infrastructure as Code, managing Azure DevOps pipelines, automating operational processes, and supporting .NET application deployments. The position also involves troubleshooting, contributing to technical standards, and collaborating with cross-functional teams.
Must have
- Computer Science, Information Technology or related degree, or equivalent practical experience.
- Hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure is required and experience with other cloud platforms such as AWS is advantageous.
- Experience with Azure DevOps, Git and CI/CD concepts.
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Bicep / Terraform), with Bicep experience highly desirable.
- Practical scripting or automation experience using PowerShell, Bash, Azure CLI, Python or a similar language.
- Understanding of cloud infrastructure concepts including networking, identity, access management and security.
- Experience with, or understanding of, deploying and supporting applications in a cloud environment.
- Experience with .NET, SQL Server / Azure SQL, PostgreSQL, Azure APIM, App Service, Load Balancer and Virtual Machines, along with Azure security controls including RBAC, managed identities, Key Vault and network security would be highly desirable.
- Experience with AI-assisted development tools (e.g. GitHub Copilot, Claude) and familiarity with integrating LLM APIs into workflows.
- Understanding of software development practices including source control, pull requests and code review.
- Good communication skills – written and verbal.
- Demonstrated problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Takes ownership of assigned work and follows tasks through to completion.
- The ability to occasionally work outside normal business hours, including weekends.
