Data Architect
About the role
The Architect – Data Engineering role is responsible for leading the design and architecture of enterprise-scale data, analytics, and AI solutions. The position involves acting as the primary architectural authority within assigned business domains, defining target-state architectures, developing technical blueprints, and ensuring alignment with enterprise technology strategies. The architect will design AI-enabled and agentic workflows, establish reusable solution patterns, and incorporate governance and cost optimization into solution designs. The role also includes designing modern cloud-based data platforms, ensuring data governance and security, collaborating with stakeholders, mentoring engineering teams, and supporting the transition from design to implementation. The position is offered on a renewable contract basis, starting with an initial 6-month contract, and is based in Colombo with a hybrid working arrangement. Must have
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 8 years of experience in Data Architecture, Solution Architecture, or senior Data Engineering roles.
- Minimum 3 years of experience with architectural ownership of enterprise-scale technology solutions.
- Strong expertise in cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
- Strong understanding of modern data architecture principles and scalable analytics platforms.
- Proven experience designing AI-enabled enterprise solutions.
- Experience with: Agentic Workflows, Large Language Models (LLMs), Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), Prompt Engineering, Context Engineering, Model Evaluation Frameworks.
- Hands-on experience with Google Gemini Enterprise and/or Vertex AI will be a strong advantage.
- Strong understanding of data governance, data products, semantic layers, and modern data operating models.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to explain complex architecture concepts to technical, business, and executive audiences.
- Strong leadership, problem-solving, and strategic thinking capabilities.
Nice to have
- Experience operating within domain-driven or embedded architecture models.
- Familiarity with data mesh principles and data product operating models.
- Experience working within large-scale enterprise transformation environments.
- Exposure to AI governance, observability, and FinOps frameworks.

Highlights
The role is based in Colombo - 03 with a hybrid working model and standard Monday to Friday hours. Employment is on a renewable contract basis, starting with 6 months and potentially extending to a 1-year renewable contract based on performance.
