Laravel Developer
About the role
The Laravel Developer role is a remote position based in Colombo, with occasional office visits if required. The position involves working with Laravel and SQL, developing REST APIs, and handling complex model relationships, custom scopes, and database operations. The developer will be expected to apply modular programming principles and work collaboratively within a small team, contributing to real-world projects and solving complex problems. Candidates should have at least 4 years of Laravel development experience and demonstrate a start-up mindset, curiosity, and eagerness to learn and adapt. The role offers the opportunity to work in both Agile and Waterfall project structures and emphasizes attention to detail and best practices.
Must have
- Strong experience working with Laravel and SQL
- Good understanding of REST API principles and uses
- Comfortable with complex model relationships, custom relationships and relationships from third party packages, Eloquent ORM vs raw SQL, custom scopes applying ORM and SQL, operations on database engine vs PHP, helper classes and functions, extending core Laravel classes, considerations when upgrading Laravel or PHP, validation, notifications, jobs, resources
- Good understanding of modular programming principles: SOLID, DRY and MVC
- At least 4 years’ experience in Laravel development
- Demonstrable experience using Laravel to deliver a working real-world project, ideally including one or more of the concepts listed above
- Self-starter with a start-up mindset, keen to learn different roles and work on a variety of tasks
- Curiosity, open mind, and passion for understanding users and meeting their needs
- Desire and ability to learn new programming languages, technologies, and concepts
- Eager to work collaboratively with a small team, share opinions, give and receive feedback, and learn and improve as a team
- Fascination with data insights, solving complex problems and tricky algorithms
- Comfortable in either Agile or Waterfall project structures
- Attention to detail, following best practice principles and project code style, taking notes, and providing feedback as needed
- Ability to work under pressure, prioritise and meet deadlines
Nice to have
- Degree in software engineering or relevant field
- Experience writing tests using standard PHP testing methodologies
- Experience using React JS as a frontend for Laravel API
- Experience writing technical documentation, working with users and stakeholders to plan and document solutions to their challenges
