Senior Mobile Engineer - Android (BFSI)
About the role
Surge Global is seeking a Senior Mobile Engineer specializing in Android to build, enhance, and maintain native Android applications using Kotlin. The role involves implementing onboarding and account-opening journeys, integrating with Spring Boot backend APIs, and ensuring mobile application security for financial applications. The engineer will also be responsible for integrating RESTful APIs, developing automated tests, collaborating with designers, and applying modern Android architecture patterns. The position is based in Colombo, Sri Lanka, and is part of a team that supports clients globally. Surge Global offers a transparent and equal workplace culture, and employees will transition to the client company after three years.
Must have
- At least 4 years of experience in native Android application development, with applications published and live on the Google Play Store.
- Strong proficiency in Kotlin and experience with modern Android development frameworks and tools.
- Experience with Jetpack Compose or a clear understanding of modern Android UI development and the ability to transition to Compose.
- Strong knowledge of Kotlin Coroutines and modern Android architecture patterns, including MVVM and MVI.
- Hands-on experience integrating RESTful APIs and implementing offline capabilities, error handling, and resilient application flows.
- Solid understanding of mobile application security fundamentals, particularly for financial applications.
- Practical experience with automated testing frameworks and tools, including JUnit, Espresso, or Jetpack Compose UI Testing.
- Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to delivering high-quality, reliable mobile applications.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with designers and backend engineers to deliver complete, user-focused features.
Nice to have
- Experience developing mobile applications in banking, payments, fintech, or other regulated industries.
- Experience implementing biometric authentication, device-binding flows, electronic Know Your Customer (e-KYC), or document-capture functionality.
- Familiarity with Google Play Store release management, phased rollouts, and production deployment practices.
- Experience improving application stability, monitoring crash reports, and optimizing performance in production environments.
