Intern, Software Engineer (Database Administrator)
About the role
Circles is seeking an intern for the role of Software Engineer (Database Administrator) for a 6-month internship based in Sri Lanka. The intern will support the team in managing and monitoring enterprise databases for large-scale telecommunications platforms, gaining hands-on experience with Oracle, MySQL/MariaDB, MongoDB, and middleware technologies. Responsibilities include assisting with database monitoring, backup validation, routine operational tasks, developing automation scripts, and learning best practices in database operations. The role is suitable for fresh graduates or undergraduates awaiting results in Computer Science or related fields, with basic knowledge in database administration, Linux/Unix, and scripting.
Must have
- Fresh graduates who have recently completed a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Management Information Systems or a closely related field.
- We also welcome applications from undergraduates who have completed their academic requirements in the relevant Degree fields listed above and are currently awaiting their results.
- Basic knowledge or experience in database administration, database engineering, IT operations, software engineering, or a related field.
- Basic understanding of relational databases and SQL.
- Basic knowledge of Oracle, MySQL/MariaDB, Mongo and PostgreSQL databases.
- Basic knowledge of Linux/Unix administration
- Basic scripting knowledge in Shell/Bash or Python.
- Good analytical and troubleshooting skills with an eagerness to investigate technical issues.
- Good communication skills and willingness to learn from senior engineers.
- Strong interest in database technology, automation, cloud infrastructure, and site reliability engineering.
Nice to have
- Exposure to automation tools such as Ansible or Terraform is a plus.
