Senior AI Engineer (Agentic Systems)
About the role
Teams Squared is seeking a Senior AI Engineer to design, build, and operate the AI systems powering Mission Control, the company's internal platform. The role involves modeling business processes into agentic systems, deploying and running agents in production (primarily on AWS and Claude Managed Agents), building and maintaining a unified context layer, and tuning agent deployments for optimal performance. The ideal candidate will have strong software engineering fundamentals, hands-on experience with production AI agents and LLM applications, and daily use of AI coding tools. The position is hybrid and based in Sri Lanka, offering the opportunity to work closely with leadership and influence product direction.
Must have
- 5+ years of software engineering experience, including at least 1 year building and deploying production-grade AI agents (mandatory)
- Strong engineering fundamentals in data structures and algorithms, including graphs and graph theory, linked lists and hash maps (mandatory)
- Demonstrated experience deploying AI agents or LLM applications in the cloud; personal projects count if you can explain the architecture and trade-offs (mandatory)
- Daily, hands-on use of AI coding tools such as Claude Code and Codex; this will be tested in the hiring process (mandatory)
- Prompt engineering experience, including prompt versioning and running LLM evals (mandatory)
- Strong communicator who can explain a system and its trade-offs to leadership as clearly as to an engineer
- Comfortable with ambiguity, with a strong sense of ownership and the ability to create structure where there is none
- Must be based in Sri Lanka and able to work in a hybrid arrangement
Nice to have
- Production experience on AWS and with Claude Managed Agents is strongly preferred
- Experience running agents in privacy-sensitive environments (e.g. OpenShell) is advantageous
- Experience in context and process engineering, and in optimising agent memory, latency and inference cost, is advantageous
- Experience in a 0-to-1 startup is advantageous
